De La Soul announce new album ‘Cabin in the Sky’ and share first single
De La Soul have officially announced their new album, Cabin in the Sky, which will serve as their first album in nine years.
Cabin in the Sky is scheduled to be released on November 21st via Mass Appeal Records. The project will feature Nas, Black Thought, Killer Mike, and Little Dragon’s Yukimi.
On the production side of things, producers on the album will include DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Super Dave, and others.
To coincide with the announcement, they’ve also shared the first single, ‘The Package’, which is produced by Pete Rock.
The project will be their first since the passing of Trugoy the Dove (also known as Plug Two and Dave) in February 2023.
De La Soul join Big L, Slick Rick, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, and Nas and DJ Premier in a series of legendary artists dropping albums on Mass Appeal in 2025.
Speaking on the trio, label founder Nas recently told Rolling Stone, “These dudes from Long Island had a different perspective, almost hippies in hip-hop,” he said. “The hardest dude on the street was blown away by De La Soul because their expression gave us multiple colors through music.”
He continued, “They had something that spoke to [us] the first time we ever saw television, heard music, it was all wrapped in the imagination of Posdnuos and Maseo [and Dave].”
Their last album, And the Anonymous Nobody, was released in August 2016, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and earning a ‘Best Rap Album’ nomination at the Grammy Awards in 2017.
It featured several high-profile guests, including Snoop Dogg, David Byrne, 2 Chainz, Damon Albarn, Roc Marciano, and others.
