Dame Dash bashes Jay-Z’s ‘Reasonable Doubt’ album: “Nobody gives a fuck about it”
Dame Dash has claimed that “nobody gives a fuck” about Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt album.
Hov’s classic debut album turns 30 years old on June 25th, with the rapper marking the milestone with an anniversary show at Yankee Stadium on July 10th.
However, Jay’s former business partner, Dame, has diminished the album during its landmark year.
Speaking on The Art of Dialogue, he said, “Reasonable Doubt doesn’t sell shit. Why do you think I gave it away? Nobody made no money off that, that shit barely went gold.”
He continued, “Nobody gives a fuck about Reasonable Doubt other than the people that were there. Ask some kid about Reasonable Doubt… they’ll be like, ‘Nobody cares about Jay-Z as a rapper.'”
Reasonable Doubt was released through Roc-A-Fella Records, which was co-founded by Jay-Z, Dash, and Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke in 1994.
The album debuted at number 23 on the Billboard 200 chart with features from Biggie Smalls, Mary J Blige, Memphis Bleek, and more. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and has sold over 1.5 million copies in the US, featuring the singles ‘Ain’t No N*gga’, ‘Can’t Knock the Hustle’, and ‘Feelin’ It’.
During a recent interview with GQ, Jay spoke about the album that started off his music career.
“When we first dropped ‘Reasonable Doubt,’ we sold 43,000 records … the fact that we released an album was proof enough of concept,” he said. “We did it. Remember, we’re not in control of distribution, marketing, anything. We’re going like a street-level, street-team approach to this.”
He added, “On the streets we were platinum. Anywhere you was going to go, you was going to hear Reasonable Doubt.”
