Chris Brown’s accuser seeks $16 million in damages
Chris Brown is caught up in another legal conflict. The pop star is being taken to court by Abe Diaw. The two have allegedly met previously, and Diaw is pressing charges based on an alleged incident in 2023.
In the lawsuit, Diaw alleges that the pop star smashed a bottle of liquor over his head during a confrontation that took place at a nightclub. He allegedly filed a lawsuit previously regarding the incident but didn’t hear anything back. Now, he is looking for $16million as compensation for the injuries that he sustained.
Diaw has essentially been allowed to name his price. Given Brown’s failure to respond to the lawsuit, the claim wasn’t contested, and Diaw won by default judgement. Diaw claims that he served the pop star twice at his residence, both in February and April, giving Brown plenty of time to respond to the charges.
Diaw’s motion specifically lays out the situation with the R&B star. He writes, “[Brown] has failed to file any response to the complaint or the first amended complaint, exceeding the statutory time limit for doing so.”
The motion calls Brown “non-compliant” and states the specific number of days that have passed since the initial lawsuit was passed. “As of October 1st, 2024,” it says, “It has been 141 days since the defendant was served with the first amended complaint.”
Diaw states that he has suffered a number of severe injuries as a result of the Chris Brown attack. He said that on the night, he was knocked unconscious as a result of the broken bottle, and Brown stomped on his body multiple times following the strike.
Furthermore, Diaw filed doctors’ reports within his lawsuit claimed he was suffering from torn ligaments and head injuries. The original lawsuit was filed in 2023, and now, with no response from Brown a year later, Diaw is asking for $16million in damages for the “Injuries and losses suffered.”
This isn’t the only incident impacting Brown’s public image at the moment. The singer already has a number of allegations of violence held against him, and a new documentary in the pipeline has truly brought his complicated personal life into the spotlight.
The documentary is called Chris Brown: A History of Violence and is set to premiere on October 27th. It will apparently include interviews with a range of different people that Brown has been accused of abusing over the years.
