Mistrial declared in $90 million Chris Brown dog attack lawsuit

The Chris Brown dog attack lawsuit has ended in a mistrial.

The singer’s former housekeeper, Maria Avila, sued for $90 million over claims she was attacked by one of his dogs in 2020.

Breezy appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom to testify on June 16th, but Judge Huey P Cotton declared a mistrial due to juror misconduct.

According to Rolling Stone, the judge said, “Unfortunately, one of the jurors has violated my admonitions against searching the internet for information, and not only that, but he also shared it, and as a consequence, I have to declare a mistrial.”

Following the decision, the lawyers immediately began picking from a new jury that was already assembled.

Brown is set to be the first witness in the case, but he asked for another delay due to him leaving that night to see his newborn son in Las Vegas. He’s set to return to the courtroom on June 18th.

As the jury selection was taking place on June 15th, Brown’s attorneys said that he had admitted to being partially responsible for her claims and that she suffered damages.

In her lawsuit, Avila cited intentional infliction of emotional distress and was seeking punitive damages. She alleged that on December 12th, 2020, she was attacked by a large dog who ripped chunks of flesh and bone out of her face and arm.

Avila claimed that she screamed in terror and called out for help, with Brown coming outside and standing over her before he “fled the scene as [she] lay on the driveway in a pool of blood, bleeding to death.”

She claims she needed emergency surgery, resulting in extensive disfigurement, nerve damage, and loss of vision.
