Why did Chief Keef have beef with Katy Perry in 2013?

Chief Keef has been involved in a few feuds in his time, be it with 6ix9ine, Migos or fellow Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco. But his weirdest, most unexpected beef was with Katy Perry, of all people.

Keef’s dispute with the pop star, who has herself recently been embroiled in controversy, began in 2013. That was the year after Keef released his song ‘Hate Bein’ Sober,’ which featured 50 Cent and Wiz Khalifa.

Perry was not a fan of the track, and she let it be known. She tweeted that she’d heard the song on the radio, stating that it induced within her “serious doubt for the world.” Naturally enough, Keef didn’t take kindly to that. Still a teenager at the time, he hit back online.

Keef posted a series of tweets in which he threatened Perry, while also hinting that he would release a diss song against her. Luckily for all involved, it never came to that.

Perry took to Twitter again to try and diffuse the situation, explaining that she hadn’t specifically meant to upset Keef. She claimed she hadn’t known who had made the song, and she apologised for any offense caused.

Keef was surprisingly magnanimous with his response. “Oh,” he posted with an emoji. “I’m sorry too, then.”

That appeared to be that, with Keef even sampling Perry on his 2014 track ‘Save Me.’ That was clearly a signal that all was well between them, and the incident seemed to be forgotten. That is, until Perry recently reminded everyone about the brief feud more than a decade after the fact.

Perry uploaded a video onto TikTok on May 23, 2026, in which she is seen applying make-up before sitting on a couch and appearing to meditate. The accompanying caption read, “Attempting to summon Mr Keef.”

What, exactly, is going on here is unclear. Why she would purposely seek to remind people of her brief dispute with Chief Keef is a mystery, but that’s what she’s done. That strange episode from 2013 is back on people’s minds.
