
Chicago rapper 4Block Lil Mari shot during carjacking attempt
4Block Lil Mari was involved in a shooting over the weekend. The Chicago rapper reportedly attempted to steal a car but was injured in the process.
The incident took place at around 10am on September 7th near 67th Street and Cregier Avenue in Chicago’s South Side.
According to police officers, a 34-year-old woman was approached by several people when gunfire broke out. The woman, left in fair condition, exchanged shots with the suspects and suffered gunshot wounds to her lower right leg and thigh.
Lil Mari, who is 16, was hit in the chest, thigh and groin, and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
Around 16 shell casings were found in the west alley of Cregier. The woman drove to the parking lot of La Rabida Children’s Hospital following the shooting; her Dodge vehicle was covered with bullet holes, and her firearm was discovered inside.
According to CBS Chicago, Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the incident, with no one currently in custody.
4Block Lil Mari’s biggest song, ‘OK’, has over 5.3 million views on YouTube. It was released as part of his debut project, A Reaper’s Diary, in January. ‘OK’ has over 2.5 million Spotify streams, with ‘Families Cry’ also boasting 1.2 million streams.
Mari has more than 188,000 monthly Spotify listeners and 120,000 followers on Instagram. In a post last week, he previewed a new song and wrote in the caption, “Back 2 Back fuck n*ggas yall can’t fwm 5,000 likes imma drop my all n whim whamie triller.”
Last year, he took part in an “On the Radar” freestyle, which has over 1.2 million YouTube views. The likes of Drake, Central Cee, and Ice Spice have taken part in the freestyle series.
