Charges dropped against Travis Scott in trespassing case

After Travis Scott was charged with trespassing and intoxication in Miami earlier this summer, the rapper has now been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Back in June, a motion was filed against Scott, referring to disorderly intoxication and trespassing in the city of Miami. At the time of the arrest, police officers said Scott “was drunk, causing a disturbance, and asked to leave multiple times.” He was then released on a $650 bond.

However, on August 20th, Scott’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, filed a motion requesting the case be dismissed due to a lack of “no trespassing” signs at the scene. Cohen also argued that Scott was not actually arrested at the Miami Beach Marina, calling in more technicalities.

According to police officers, the rapper caused a “disturbance” on a charter boat and entered a dispute with the occupants of the boat while drunk. After initially cooperating and agreeing to remove himself from the area, he then allegedly returned a few minutes later and became “erratic”.

In late August, prosecutors made the decision to drop the intoxication charge but continued to proceed with the trespassing charge, however, they have now dropped that charge too.

In a new statement, Scott’s lawyer told TMZ: “After arguing the motion to dismiss and the state realizing that there was no path to maintaining the charge, they decided to drop the case in its entirety. Although not a serious charge, and one that should not have been filed, we are pleased with the result.”

While Scott has been cleared of both charges relating to the incident in Miami, he still is facing more legal woes.

This summer, the hip-hop star has been touring Europe, which included a sold-out date at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last month. The run of dates across the continent has included recent dates in Greece, Spain, Germany, Italy, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

On August 9th, Scott was arrested in France for getting into a fight with his bodyguard at his hotel. In a statement, the Paris prosecutor’s office told the French publication, Valeurs, “The police were called to the George V hotel to arrest the rapper for assaulting a security guard. The latter had himself intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard.”

According to Paris-based journalist Peter Allen, Scott was taken into custody, but his “condition did not initially allow him to be questioned” by authorities.

Scott is yet to comment on the incident in France.
