Chance The Rapper announces release date for ‘Star Line’ album
Chance The Rapper has announced the release date for his long-awaited new album, Star Line. The project has been teased for years, but the Chicago artist is finally ready to unveil his next album.
According to his website, Star Line will be released on August 15th. The illustrated cover art shows Chance wearing a black bucket hat before the Northern Lights. It continues the portrait theme of his previous projects, 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book.
Star Line will follow his 2019 debut album, The Big Day, which received a mixed reception. It debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 108,000 units and featured Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Gucci Mane, Lil Durk, Nicki Minaj, and many others.
Speaking about the inspiration behind Star Line in 2022, Chance told Sway in the Morning, “I was inspired by Marcus Garvey in the early 1900s — 1919 through 1922 — so 100 years ago now. He started and ran this very important, integral shipping line. He had a fleet of ships, these giant ocean liners which are the size of cruise ships, that he owned and funded with common Black folks’ money.
“But what he did with it was he created a trade route between the United States, all of the Black islands and the continent of Africa, and that created a network of people where people from all over the world were interconnected and working with each other and taking trips together, and created this connectivity that didn’t exist before.”
Chance’s most recent single, ‘Tree‘, featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, was released on July 3rd and has over two million Spotify streams.
In 2024, he shared several other tracks, including ‘Buried Alive’, ‘Together’, ‘Stars Out’, ‘Bad Boys 2’, and ‘333’.
