Chance The Rapper provides update on new album
Chicago lyricist Chance The Rapper has provided an update about his sophomore album, Star Line. The project is a follow-up to the emcee’s debut album, The Big Day, which arrived in 2019. Chance has released a number of projects such as 10 Day, Acid Rap and Colouring Book. However, they were classified by the musician himself as mixtapes.
During a recent interview, Chance The Rapper (real name Chancellor Bennett) explained that Star Line is not 85 per cent done as he had previously eluded on social media but instead detailed, “That’s a little generous. I’ma say 83, 83.5, 82.7, you know what I’m saying? We’re living in the project right now.”
Bennett revealed that he believes he is in a better mental and creative state now than when he made his first album, The Big Day. Elaborating on how he is living in the project with his fans, Chance added, “The thing is, no one has the attention span for what the conversation needs to be. So I’m piecing it together, I’m living in it with my fans, with the new artists I come in contact with.”
While comparing the process of recording Star Line with The Big Day, the Illinois native disclosed that he is far happier this time around, telling Complex, “I’m really enjoying this process time. Because sometimes the process time is really stressful and hectic. For my last project, I’d just gotten married, I just had a baby, I was about to separate from my management.”
He continued,” Like, I had so many things going on, and now, it’s not like ain’t shit going on — it’s a lot going on — but I’m really able to revel in the creative process and put everything into that and be 100% myself and present in the now.”
The title Star Line is of great importance to Chance The Rapper as it draws on African history. Speaking to Sway Calloway about it in 2022, Bennett revealed, “I was inspired by Marcus Garvey in the early 1900s — 1919 through 1922 — so 100 years ago now. He started and ran this very important, integral shipping line. He had a fleet of ships, these giant ocean liners which are the size of cruise ships, that he owned and funded with common Black folks’ money.”
Star Line was meant to arrive this year during the spring. However, like many artists, he decided to postpone the project’s release. Avid Chance The Rapper fans are still eagerly awaiting its release. However, some are frustrated.
