Ca$h Out sentenced to life in prison on rape and sex trafficking charges

Ca$h Out has been sentenced to life in prison. The Atlanta rapper was found guilty in his RICO and sexual assault trial on July 18th.

The 34-year-old (real name John Gibson) received life in prison for his rape charge, in addition to 70 years for RICO, which includes racketeering, sex trafficking, and firearm possession. He will serve the sentences concurrently.

According to Variety, his mother, Linda Smith, was sentenced to 30 years on RICO charges. His cousin, Tyrone Taylor, was also handed life in prison, as well as 70 years.

Ca$h Out was initially charged in June 2023 with allegations that he, his mother and cousin coerced and forced women into sex work for years.

Following the verdict, Ca$h Out thanked the judge and jurors while denying the allegations against him.

“I want to start out by thanking you for giving us a fair trial,” he said in the courtroom. “I want to thank the jurors for the amount of time that they put in to judge this trial. The time being on this trial, I was able to see how the jurors are put in the tough position of sitting there and judge someone’s life.”

He added, “And, you know, it’s a hard decision, and I felt like they made the wrong judgment. I’ve done things in my life. I’m not perfect. But the things I’ve been accused of, I know that I haven’t done those things.”

The rapper’s defence attorney, Careton Matthews, revealed his disappointment with the decision and stated his legal team could seek another trial.

“We do respect the court’s process and jury’s decision, however we’re disappointed with the verdict and the sentence,” Matthews said on July 21st. “He maintains his innocence on many of these charges and may file an appeal or a motion for a new trial.”
