Cash Out ordered to pay $40 million to sex trafficking victim
Atlanta rapper Cash Out has been ordered to pay $40 million to one of the victims in his sex trafficking case.
The 35-year-old was sentenced to life in prison for his rape charge, in addition to 70 years for RICO, which includes racketeering, sex trafficking, and firearm possession.
Court documents obtained by Complex reveal that on January 7th, $10 million was awarded in compensatory damages, as well as $30 million in punitive damages
The anonymous victim, referred to as J.M., won the default judgment against the rapper in late December.
J.M.’s attorney, Matthew Stoddard, said, “The court’s ruling underscores that sex trafficking carries serious legal consequences. It sends an important signal that exploiting vulnerable individuals is not only morally reprehensible but will be met with substantial accountability under the law.”
He continued, “The court’s ruling underscores that sex trafficking carries serious legal consequences. It sends an important signal that exploiting vulnerable individuals is not only morally reprehensible but will be met with substantial accountability under the law.”
Despite being convicted, Cash Out denied the allegations against him in the courtroom after he was sentenced.
“I want to start out by thanking you for giving us a fair trial,” he said. “I want to thank the jurors for the amount of time that they put in to judge this trial. The time being on this trial, I was able to see how the jurors are put in the tough position of sitting there and judge someone’s life.”
He added, “And, you know, it’s a hard decision, and I felt like they made the wrong judgment. I’ve done things in my life. I’m not perfect. But the things I’ve been accused of, I know that I haven’t done those things.”
