Cardi B hits back about “haters” criticising ‘WAP’ and ‘Up’ being on her new album
Cardi B has defended her decision to include ‘WAP’ and ‘Up’ on her new album, despite both songs being years old. The Bronx rapper took to social media this week to respond to backlash after announcing her second album.
‘WAP’ was released in 2020, and ‘Up’ was released in 2021. Both singles topped the Billboard Hot 100 in their respective years.
As it’s been so long since Cardi released an album, both tracks never appeared on a project, so she selected them for Am I the Drama?, which is set to arrive on September 19th via Atlantic Records.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on June 26th, she addressed her “haters,” explaining why the songs are on her upcoming album.
“This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this,” she began. “WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on IOP all the time… they deserve a home. I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammy’s and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want!”
She added, “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are yall even crying about??? Do ya say anything when all these artist pull out all their little tricks and ponies to sell out??? Exactly… Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”
Cardi’s last album, her debut, Invasion of Privacy, was released in April 2018. It reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and won ‘Best Rap Album’ at the Grammys. Fans have been patiently waiting for the follow-up amid various delays.
