Cardi B hits back at Elon Musk for calling her a Kamala Harris “puppet”

Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi B has been engaged in a social media spat with Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he called her a “puppet” for the Kamala Harris campaign.

A video of Cardi was posted on a right-wing account on Musk’s social media platform, X. In the video, she is reading a speech and a teleprompter breaks. Cardi is then given her phone, which contains her speech points, before continuing to speak. This seems like a reasonably innocent exchange, but Musk has taken issue with the fact Cardi needed speech notes.

“Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words,” he said when quoting the tweet of the original post. He continued to call the mix-up “embarrassing.” Musk, who hasn’t been shy in coming out as a Donald Trump supporter, added, “The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy.”

Cardi hit back at Musk, providing her reasons for backing the Harris campaign and firmly putting the Tesla CEO in his place. In her very own quote tweet, the rapper outlined all of the points that Harris stands for that Cardi agrees with.

“I’m not a puppet Elon..” She said, “I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me! I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8, I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you…. But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle…. PS fix my algorithm.”

The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, was born to two wealthy parents in South Africa. His father, Errol Musk, is said to have owned his own partial stake in an emerald mine in Zambia.

During Cardi’s endorsement for Harris, she delivered a passionate speech which touched upon women’s rights and the sexism embedded in the Trump campaign. “Just like Kamala Harris, I too have been the underdog, I’ve been underestimated, my success belittled and discredited,” she said, “Let me tell you something: Women have to work ten times harder, perform ten times better, and still people question us, how we got to the top. I can’t stand a bully, but just like Kamala, I always stand up to one.”

The results for the American election are set to be revealed around November 5th.
