Charlamagne Tha God hits out at CNN for normalising “Donald Trump’s fascism”
Since the beginning of the US Presidential race, hip-hop figures have become more political, and whether they’re showing support for the Republican party or the Democratic party, emotions are high. That said, Breakfast Club radio host Charlamagne Tha God has lashed out at CNN for its coverage of Donald Trump throughout the race.
During his rant, he claimed that the news channel always focuses on the incorrect, morally dubious claims the businessman makes, stating, “They always centre the wrong conversation.” He argued that the end result is that CNN has “assisted in the normalisation of Donald Trump’s fascism!”
Charlamagne spoke about comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who made a widely criticised joke about Puerto Rico by calling it a “floating island of garbage.”
Although the host said he doesn’t mind engaging with Republicans, he insisted it has to be in good faith, arguing, “I have no problem, as you know, having conversations with people I don’t agree with. I think conservatives should talk to liberals. Liberals should talk to conservatives. Independents should be talking with liberals and conservatives.”
He continued, “We are all humans on this planet trying to figure it out. Let’s have conversations. I have no problem with it, but it has to be a good-faith conversation. Okay? It has to be good-faith discussions.”
The renowned radio host recalled how when he watched CNN reporting on Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, they framed the occasion as if it was normal when, in fact, some of the speeches were highly offensive.
Recounting his experience watching CNN, Charlamagne detailed, “The first issue is what they choose to centre and how they choose to centre it. I was watching CNN yesterday, and I’m not gonna say the anchor’s name, but they were talking about the MAGA rally at the Garden, and they were talking about it like it was just normal.”
Accusing the broadcaster of not understanding how to report on Trump, he ranted, “We’re almost 10 years into the Trump era, and they still don’t know how to cover that demon! Or the blatant white supremacy that comes from anyone associated with him, okay? It’s strange.”
Charlamagne’s latest Breakfast Club rant comes after his appearance on CNN with Anderson Cooper, where he brutally lambasted the channel, declaring, “I feel like I heard more on this network about ‘Is Kamala Harris Black’ than I do about, you know, Donald Trump being a fascist.”
Cooper angrily refuted, telling the host, “Honestly, that’s bullsh–t! To say we’re sitting around discussing ‘Is Kamala Harris Black?’”
The election is set to take place on November 5th.
