Cardi B has no plans to release any new music in the near future

In March, Bronx emcee Cardi B released a new single for her hardcore fans. Entitled ‘Like What (Freestyle),’ the track sampled the legendary Timbaland-produced Missy Elliott song ‘She’s A Bitch’ and was Cardi’s first solo record since her 2021 single ‘Up’.

However, despite rumours and speculation that she was preparing for an album, the lyricist (real name Belcalis Almanzar) recently took to social media to reveal to fans that she will not be releasing any sort of project this year.

Cardi B has a long history of regular social media use. However, in a since-deleted Twitter/X post, Almanzar agreed with one of her followers that she needs a rest from both music and social media as she has done more than enough for her fans.

In a post agreeing with her follower, Cardi wrote, “Exactly, and I tell myself this all the time..and I hate that I fall back and start interacting again, and it bites me in the ass…” She then continued to speak about her project, commenting, “Anyway, NO album this year, I don’t care. I’m relaxing this year. Dropping these features, I already committed to and travelling and enjoying my summer.”

Many fans expressed their disappointment. However, Cardi then changed her focus to the past and celebrated the fact that she now has four tracks with over one billion streams on Spotify. The ‘Bodak Yellow’, insinuating that she still has music in the vault, wrote, “Can’t wait for you to see and hear what’s next!”

Although many are disappointed, some fans are also angry, as earlier this year, Cardi B suggested she would release a whole body of work when she wrote on Instagram, “January 2023 ….I really got like 100 songs.”

She concluded, “I promise y’all this year: I’m not letting my anxiety, I’m not letting what haters say, I’m not letting what fans say… If I do a song, Imma just fuckin’ drop it.” Adding, “Well, I got no choice, because I’m dropping my album this year, so stay tuned for the announcement.”
