Cam’Ron claims Kanye West has always been “bizarre”

Former Dipset rapper Cam’Ron has spoken out about his former collaborator Kanye West and his recent antics, such as wearing a Ku Klux Klan Klansman outfit for his interview.

The Harlem native commented on West’s recent behaviour and, while analysing it, gave his theory about why Kanye is acting so erratically. Many of West’s recent online comments, such as labelling Jay-Z’s children as “r*tarded” and claiming he “used to f*ck Ashley [Olsen]”, have caused a considerable uproar, but Cam’Ron is not shocked by them.

During an appearance on the You Were Thinking It podcast, Cam’Ron spoke to Sen City, the Purple Haze creator, and addressed why West’s chaos seems to be getting worse and why, at the moment, it is worse than ever.

In fact, while on the podcast, Cam’Ron asserted that Kanye’s recent behaviour isn’t a new phenomenon; it only seems new because it has now become public-facing. However, according to the ‘Oh Boy’ rhymer, West has been like this since the early 2000s.

According to him, the only thing that’s changed since the early days is West’s platform’s size and reach. Looking back at his behaviour across the years, Cam began, “He’s always had wild quotables. From the time he said, ‘George Bush doesn’t like Black people’—that just happened to be on CNN. It looked bold instead of bizarre. But he’s been on this type of time for years.”

Cam’Ron insisted that Kanye is pulling crazy stunts now (such as his DJ Akademiks interview) because his audience is diminishing dramatically. Explaining his theory, he detailed, “His outlets keep shrinking. People don’t want to give him a platform anymore!” Highlighting this, he stated that he is talking to podcasters and online personalities because he has nowhere left to go, asserting, “If Kanye could still get national interviews, he wouldn’t be talking to Akademiks. He’s doing what he can to be seen, but the crowd is thinning.”

The Harlem emcee also suggested that much of West’s behaviour is a performance for the cameras, adding, “Akademiks filmed the lead-up—Kanye wasn’t in costume. He was speaking like a regular person. Then, once the cameras started rolling, he flipped the switch and became ‘Ye.’ As soon as the interview ended, he’s back to talking about catching flights.”

As a New York native who was formerly signed to Roc-a-Fella, Cam’Ron unveiled that he was truly disgusted at the comments Kanye made about Jay-Z’s children and is yet more evidence of West trying to stay relevant.
