Cam’ron sues J Cole over ‘Ready ’24’ collaboration
Cam’ron has filed a lawsuit against J Cole. The Harlem rapper claims he’s owed $500,000 over their ‘Ready ’24’ collaboration, which was released last year.
The Dipset artist filed his suit in Manhattan federal court on October 28th, alleging Cole “refused to honour” an agreement.
Cam teamed up with Cole on a song from the Dreamville’s rapper Might Delete Later mixtape, which dropped in April 2024.
He claims he was only credited as a co-author and not a performer, and that he hasn’t received any compensation for his work.
Rolling Stone reports that the rapper is asking a judge to change his credits, and wants Cole and Universal Music Group to issue royalties.
Cam alleges his feature came with the promise that he would be able to grant final approval before the song came out, and that Cole would repay the favour with a feature.
According to Cam, the track was recorded in New York City in 2022. He claims he told Cole the song couldn’t be released until he provided him with a verse.
However, Cole was allegedly hesitant as he wanted to create an original song rather than one Cam had already recorded. Cam says Cole told him he would appear on his It Is What It Is podcast instead of providing a feature, but that he has “repeatedly” said he is unavailable.
Cam spits a verse on the T-Minus, DZL, WU10, and AzizTheShake-produced track, which reached number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He raps on the song, “N*ggas had to give me six feet before the COVID hit/ Or you’ll be six feet deep like when I load the clip/ Early bird, and the can of worms, you opened it/ Still hittin’ old girl, still make her toes curl/ Killa Cam and Cole World, y’all n*ggas ready?”
