Busta Rhymes honoured with President’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Pioneering hip-hop star and occasional actor Busta Rhymes is set to be honoured with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognises an individual’s contribution to society and giving back to the community.

On Thursday [January 30], the acclaimed songwriter revealed, via Instagram, that he was among the few people chosen to be honoured by the Lifetime Achievement Award. The post was accompanied by a graphic revealing that the rapper was being honoured “for his contributions in the community as an international hip-hop, recording artist, music, business entrepreneur, thespian and humanitarian.”

Busta Rhymes – real name Trevor George Smith Jr. – accompanied that graphic with the caption, “The blessings don’t stop so we won’t ever stop!! It’s just no way to explain how amazing the blessings continue to be!!”.

He also thanked Harvest Christian University and his fellow musician Amadeus. “Thanks to @myhcu.education and my brother king @amadeuspbm,” he said, “I have also been selected as a recipient for for the prestigious lifetime achievement award!!!”

The rapper concluded his elation by writing, “It just keeps getting more and more incredible everyday!! Thank you to everyone involved for making this possible!! The most high is the greatest!!!!” His caption on the post was written entirely in capslock, reflecting his excitement at the honour.

As is tradition, the award will be presented by the current US President, Donald J Trump, who has often used hip-hop stars to appeal to voters. For instance, his inauguration in January saw Snoop Dogg perform for the Republican politician. However, it is thought that the nomination of Busta Rhymes came from the later days of Joe Biden’s administration.

Elsewhere, Busta Rhymes is facing multiple assault charges after allegedly attacking his personal assistant, Dashiel Gables, after Gables used his phone during working hours, according to The NY Post. The rapper turned himself into the NYPD days later and faces charges of misdemeanour assault, attempted assault and harassment.
