Busta Rhymes announces new album ‘Dillagence 2’ with J Dilla

Busta Rhymes has announced a new collaborative album with J Dilla.

The New York rapper recently took to social media to reveal that he would be releasing Dillagence 2 later this year.

“THE BLESSINGS DON’T STOP SO WE DON’T STOP!!! NEVERRR!!!” he wrote on Instagram. “BREAKING NEWS!!!! BUSTA RHYMES x J DILLA NEW ALBUM!! POP UP LISTENING SESSION TONIGHT!!”

Dillagence 2 will serve as the sequel to his Dillagence mixtape, which was released in 2007 alongside DJ Mick Boogie. The project saw him rapping over some of Dilla’s most iconic beats.

During an interview with GQ in 2020, Busta revealed that Dilla left him with 100s of beats before he died in 2006.

“J Dilla left me with over 300 beats before he passed,” he said. “I’m extremely selective with who I give them to, which is why I haven’t given them to anybody except Raekwon and that was for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part Two.”

He continued, “I’ve always tried to represent and uphold the legacy of the late, great J Dilla, through all of my albums … I’m a huge fan of Dilla. I think Dilla is probably top three best producers in the world. To me, my top three favourite producers ever are Dr Dre, Q-Tip and J Dilla.”

Busta has collaborated with Dilla many times since the early stages of his career, when he was known as Jay Dee. He also produced songs as part of The Ummah alongside A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.

Dilla worked on some of his biggest albums, which include The Coming, When Disaster Strikes, Anarchy, Genesis, It Ain’t Safe No More, and The Big Bang.
