Burna Boy releases new single ‘Big 7’ and announces album

The Nigerian-American rapper and singer Burna Boy has released a new single entitled ‘Big 7.’ Moreover, he has announced that he will be releasing a new album. The ‘Last Last’ emcee revealed that the album named I Told Them will be released on August 25th.

This latest track from the Nigerian singer follows his last single, ‘Sittin’ on Top Of The World’, which featured Atlanta rapper 21 Savage. Last month, Burna Boy (real name (Damini Ogulu) played a sold-out show at the London Stadium, making him the first-ever African artist to perform a headline show of that capacity.

According to the vocalist, ‘Big 7’ and its accompanying music video was released to uplift people and create a sense of fun. However, it also addresses his desire to ascend to a new level.

Explaining his vision concerning ‘Big 7,’ Ogulu explained, “The title represents a symbolic aspiration to reach greater horizons, with the number seven embodying an attainable and harmonious growth.”

The song hears Ogulu deliver lyrics of his desires and ambitions as well as his astonishment at how far he has come considering his humble African roots. The rapper also pays his respects to the late fashion designer Virgil Abloh in the track, rapping, First of all, rest in peace Virgil Abloh / Don’t spill no drink on my clothes when I’m Louis V drippin’.”

The track’s visuals see the Grammy-award-winning artist take to the streets of New York and features cameos from several iconic East Coast figures. The Benny Boom-directed music video features appearances from legends such as RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan and Busta Rhymes.

The record is heavily inspired by the ’90s hip-hop of New York and is a teaser of what fans can expect from I Told Them. You can watch the music video for ‘Big 7’ in the video below.
