Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak share new song as Silk Sonic

Silk Sonic have shared their second single, ‘Skate’, which follows Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s debut effort, ‘Leave The Doors Open’.

The supergroup’s first track was a huge hit, and there’s little doubt that ‘Skate’ will be a mammoth success too. The duo even performed the Billboard-topping track live at this year’s Grammys, and their debut album is expected later this year, but there is still no release date.

The seed was initially planted for the project way back in 2017 when .Paak opened up for Mars on tour, and their love of retro funk bled into what would become Silk Sonic.

“It was like, ‘Well, want to come back tomorrow?'” Mars told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy.

“There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other… that’s why this wouldn’t happen if it didn’t make sense and it didn’t feel natural and organic. This was a series of events that led us to ‘Man, why don’t we just do it?'”

‘Skate’ has that effortlessly cool charm to it, and the pair have stumbled on a delectable recipe that is reminiscent of the golden era of soul music. If anybody said pop music has lost its way in 2021, then throw this new Silk Sonic number in their direction.
