Birmingham rapper arrested after escaping prison and taunting police
Birmingham drill rapper Tallerz has been arrested after escaping prison two months ago.
The 27-year-old (real name Tyreece Clarke-Jones) broke out of HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire on May 23rd.
According to Birmingham Live, Tallerz was captured in the West Midlands on July 21st. He was charged with escaping lawful custody and assaulting an emergency worker.
Tallerz was initially serving an eight-year and nine-month prison sentence for robbery before he escaped.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said, “Tyreece Clarke-Jones has been charged with escaping lawful custody after he reportedly absconded from HMP Sudbury in May. The 27-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested in the West Midlands on July 21.”
They continued, “He has been additionally charged with assaulting an emergency worker. He was remanded to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning, July 22.”
During his time out of prison, he reportedly mocked police officers’ attempts to find him. A video posted to his Instagram allegedly showed a car driving around with the caption, “I’m by the sea overseas, run it up,” while he was also spotted in Winson Green.
Tallerz also released music videos for songs titled ‘OTR’ (short for ‘On the Run’) and ‘Finding Tallerz’, with an EP scheduled for release on July 30th.
Following his escape from prison in May, a manhunt was launched. At the time, police said, “He is described as 6ft tall, with black braided hair, and is of a muscular build. He has tattoos on both forearms and was wearing grey joggers with a black waistband, black socks and no top when he was last seen.”
They added, “Clarke-Jones has links to the West Midlands – namely the Birmingham, West Bromwich, Yardley, and Walsall areas. He also has links to Sheffield, Leeds and the Failsworth area of Manchester.”
The rapper is known for songs such as ‘Take the Risk’ and ‘Used 2 Dis’, which each have over a million views on YouTube. He has over 12,000 monthly Spotify listeners, with his ‘Die Young’ remix racking up over 782,000 streams.
