Beyoncé becomes the fourth woman with ten R&B/hip-hop chart number ones

Beyoncé has become only the fourth woman to secure ten number one singles in the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart. This lucrative group dates back to 1958 making it one hell of a feat for the phenom.

Aretha Franklin currently holds the top spot with a whopping 20 chart-topping singles, Janet Jackson has a healthy 16, and Mariah Carey is tied with the Destiny’s Child singer on ten completing the four women in double figures.

The track that broke Beyoncé into the big four was ‘Break My Soul’ from her latest album Renaissance, which racked up a mammoth 18.9million US streams alone last week, ensuring the single clinched the top spot.

And if Lil Nas X’s appraisal of Renaissance is anything to go by, then you might expect more hits to emerge from the record. With only one single released so far, it’s possible that she might move above Carey in the coming weeks.

The record hit the stands last Friday (July 29th) and has been receiving warm accolades ever since. However, Lil Nas X went above and beyond by claiming that she sounds as fresh as she has ever sounded.

In a gushing Instagram story, the rapper declared, “so much intention was put into this [album]” and he even went a step further and added that the former Destiny’s Child star “really deserves every single flower thrown at her”. Thus, he’ll no doubt be pleased to see her make a little piece of history.
