Award-winning Swedish rapper C Gambino murdered in drive-by shooting
Swedish rapper C Gambino has been killed following a drive-by shooting in Gothenburg that occurred on June 4th. Only last month, he was awarded a Grarmmi, the top Swedish musical award, for his song, ‘Sista Gang’ (Last Time), which has been streamed over 700,000 times since its release.
Gambino has over a million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, making him one of the most popular rappers in his home country. The emcee, real name Karar Ramadal, was found in critical condition on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds but later died in hospital. He was 26 years old.
The Gothenburg police force has since told news outlets that they have begun an investigation into the shooting. According to local reports, eye-witnesses saw a car disappearing into the distance following the sound of gunshots, but nobody saw the event.
Jens Andersson, a spokesman of the Swedish police told The Sun newspaper, “[A]witness saw a car that is seen in connection with what happened. We are investigating whether it is true.” The emcee’s car had five bullet holes, but no one has yet been arrested.
Another spokesperson, Annika Laag, told Swedish TV outlets, “We are working to collect witness information from as many [locals] as we can and continue to work on the technical investigation.”
Ramadan first broke out in 2022 with his album Sin City and nearly clinched the top spot of the Swedish album chart. However, his sophomore project, In Memory of Some Stand Up Guys, reached number one in January of this year.
As of yet, no official statement has been released by Gambino’s family, and the full circumstances surrounding his death are unknown.
