A$AP Rocky recruits Tim Burton for ‘Air Force (Black DeMarco)’ video
A$AP Rocky has released his new music video for ‘Air Force (Black DeMarco)’, starring iconic filmmaker Tim Burton.
‘Air Force (Black DeMarco)’ appears on Rocky’s long-awaited album, Don’t Be Dumb, which was released on January 16th.
Directed by Rocky and AWGE, the visual finds Burton sitting at a bar and accidentally bringing his sketchbook characters to life. The six Rocky alter egos wreak havoc across famous locations in New York City.
In the clip, the narrator, reminiscent of The Nightmare Before Christmas, says, “A man with a sketchbook sat alone at the bar, not ordinary by far,” he said. “However, I am certain that world-renowned Tim Burton had another genius idea on the tip of his tongue. He couldn’t quite sketch it, he was sure he could get it, but this draft of many drafts was not quite the one.”
He continues, “But alas, his eyelids grew heavy, an unexpected snooze. What’s there to lose? Well, for starters, when one’s not looking, one’s ideas run loose. Out for the night, to give a good fright, these mischievous drawings started a riot of great might.”
Burton was a key collaborator on Don’t Be Dumb. He created six different covers for the album, with his name appearing on each of the artworks.
Rocky previously told Billboard, “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was fucking with it heavy, he was rocking his head, and he’s like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’”
‘Air Force (Black DeMarco)’ is produced by Rocky, Manny Laurenko, and Zach Fogarty, and includes vocals from Spencer Sutherland.
It’s one of 17 tracks on the new project, which serves as his first album in eight years following Testing.
