A$AP Rocky reveals Tim Burton-designed cover for ‘Don’t Be Dumb’
A$AP Rocky has shared the cover art for his long-awaited album, Don’t Be Dumb, which is designed by Tim Burton.
Rocky has been teasing the project for years since the release of his 2018 album, Testing. Now, it appears the project is finally being released.
Taking to Instagram on December 16th, Rocky revealed the album cover for Don’t Be Dumb while revealing Burton’s involvement. “SORRY 4 THE WAIT DON’T BE DUMB FINALLY HERE!” he wrote. “THANKS TIM BURTON FOR HELPING ME MAKE THIS MOVIE! COMING SOON.”
Burton is best known for directing movies such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Alice in Wonderland.
Rocky previously told Billboard, “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was fucking with it heavy, he was rocking his head and he’s like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’”
The news comes shortly after Rocky confirmed that film composer Danny Elfman, a longtime Burton collaborator, had worked on his new album.
Speaking to Glen Powell, LaKeith Stanfield, and Callum Turner for Vanity Fair, he said, “Fun fact… Danny Elfman, he just did my album with me that I’m putting out this year. He scored a bunch of the songs.”
He continued, “We had [The Nightmare Before Christmas] on mute and were just making music to all of the old films – Pee-wee’s Playhouse and The Simpsons and all that.”
Elfman then praised Rocky on Instagram, saying, “Working with @asaprocky was a great experience. Just hanging out and listening to his new tracks… He’s an amazingly creative artist and I was really impressed with how diverse his influences and inspirations were. He’s truly a one-of-a-kind.”
Rocky appeared to announce the release date for Don’t Be Dumb at Tyler, The Creator‘s Camp Flog Gnaw’s festival by wearing a hoodie with “01162026” on the sleeve.
