A$AP Rocky reveals plans to run for New York City mayor: “Coming for Mamdani’s spot”
A$AP Rocky has revealed that he’s planning to run for mayor of New York City.
Zohran Mamdani was sworn into office in January, but the Harlem rapper has his own plans to take his spot.
During a cover story for Vibe, Rocky backed himself in a rap battle against the 34-year-old. “Mamdani wanna rap battle me?” he said “No way he called me out.”
When reminded that someone previously asked him about battling the mayor, he said, “Mamdani ain’t fucking with me. Listen, I’m already coming for his spot, ’cause I’m about to be Mayor Mayers in like four years.”
He continued, “If he wanna battle, we can do that. If he wanna have a little debate, we can do that, too. I’m here to do something, humanitarian work for the city that I’m from. All bullshit aside, I’m really gonna run for mayor. Watch this shit.”
Following Rocky’s comments, Mamdani’s deputy press secretary told Billboard, “Mayor Mamdani is well aware that he would lose a rap battle to Lord Flacko.”
He added, “That said, the mayor welcomes any opportunity to collaborate with his fellow Knicks fan to make NYC more affordable so every New Yorker can always strive and prosper.”
This isn’t the first time Rocky has discussed venturing into politics. Speaking to Esquire earlier this year, he made it clear that he wanted change and teased running for mayor in 2029.
“There are a lot of political affairs that need to be addressed, changes that need to be made,” he said. “I think that I would really do well because I’m a guy that’s for the people … [in] 2029, vote for Mayor Mayers. Vote for Rocky.”
