A$AP Rocky recalls meeting Rihanna before he was famous
A$AP Rocky has revealed he met his partner, Rihanna, before he was a famous rapper.
Rocky appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on January 19th in support of his new album, Don’t Be Dumb.
While chatting on the sofa, Rocky recalled the time he crossed paths with RiRi when she was a star, and he was unknown to the public.
The encounter took place outside of a nightclub in New York City, with the security guards giving him a hard time about gaining entry.
“I wasn’t famous at the time, she was obviously Rihanna,” he began. “And I couldn’t get in. The bouncers didn’t want to let me in. And I was with my friend, the late, great Virgil Abloh, and Matthew Williams.”
He continued, “We kind of was getting into it with the bouncers, and she came out and we locked eyes right away. I was just like, in a daze. And, you know, I was a little embarrassed that she caught me bickering with the guard and stuff like that.”
When asked if she helped him get into the club, he laughed and replied, “No.”
All these years later, Rocky shares three children with Rihanna. RZA is three, Riot is two, and Rocki is just four months old.
When Rocky was eventually a celebrity, the pair met at the Video Music Awards in 2012. The rapper featured on a remix of ‘Cockiness’ and joined RiRi for a performance. Rocky made a move on Rihanna on stage, but they weren’t romantically involved until 2020.
Speaking on their relationship, she said, “I love the simple things but also the grand adventures. There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bullshit – it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
