Adidas cut ties with Kanye West

Adidas have announced they have cut ties with Kanye West following his string of anti-Semitic remarks.

West had previously been banned from both Instagram and Twitter for posting a series of problematic comments, including the tweet, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

He later tried to defend his anti-Semitism by saying: “The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because Black people are actually Jew also. You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda [sic].”

Sadly, Ye’s comments have led to an upsurge in anti-Semitism across America, which shows the power he still holds over people. Last week, Baliencaga took action by dropping West, and now Adidas have followed suit.

In a statement, the German sportswear giant said: “Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech. Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

They added: “After a thorough review, the company has taken the decision to terminate the partnership with Ye immediately, end production of Yeezy branded products and stop all payments to Ye and his companies. Adidas will stop the Adidas Yeezy business with immediate effect.”

Adidas have already felt the repercussions of this decision, with it causing a 4% fall in morning trading in Frankfurt after rumours began to surface about them parting ways with Ye.
