The British actor Snoop Dogg called a “motherfuckin’ gangsta”
The Golden Globes 2026 were dominated by Hamnet and One Battle After Another, and everyone who helped to make them happen. But plenty of other stars left their mark on the ceremony, too, including a hip-hop legend who was on hand to present an award.
Snoop Dogg, taking to the podium to his classic song ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot,’ presented the ceremony’s first ever podcast award, during which time he coined a new nickname for the awards. “Need y’all to loosen up a little bit,” he said. “This is the Double Gs—the Double Gs is the Golden Globes. And you’re with the D-O-double-G, so make sure you enjoy yourself.”
The “Double Gs” nickname stuck immediately, with Paul Thomas Anderson, the writer-director of One Battle After Another, using the term later, when he accepted the best screenplay award for his film. “I got a Double G,” he said. “Amazing.”
Snoop shouted out “all the podcasters” who’d been nominated during his time on stage, declaring that they were “all winners.” But the “real winner,” he then announced to laughter, was Good Hang With Amy Poehler, whose eponymous host took to the stage and joked, “This is exactly how I pictured it: Snoop giving me the award.”
All of this Snoop content was broadcast on TV, but it later emerged that one moment from his time under the spotlight had actually been cut from the transmission. This was when Snoop declared, “I’m high as a motherfucker right now. Y’all had me here too damn long.”
Basically Snoop’s presence at the ceremony went exactly as one might have expected it to go. But it turns out another big winner on the night also had an encounter with him. That was Stephen Graham, the English actor who won the Best Actor in a Limited Series award for his part in Netflix’s Adolescence.
After receiving his award, Graham was giving a speech backstage when he revealed that he had bumped into Snoop earlier that night. “This one I’ve got to tell the kids and if you don’t mind I’d like to tell you all what happened,” he said. “I met Snoop Dogg.”
This interaction with Snoop, again, played out exactly as one might expect. “He shook my hand,” Graham said, “and looked me right in the eyes—I couldn’t see his eyes, because he had his glasses on—and he just said ‘You motherfuckin’ gangsta.’ My life is complete.”
Graham wasn’t the only person associated with Adolescence to emerge from the evening with an award in hand. The show won for Best Television Limited Series, while Graham’s co-stars Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty respectively secured the Best Supporting Male Actor and Best Supporting Female Actor awards.
