Since he became a father, Harlem native A$AP Rocky has been absent from hip-hop and hasn’t released much music. However, in his latest music video for the single, ‘RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n),’ the rapper decided to go big by driving a gigantic army tank.
The ‘L$D’ emcee artist was most recently spotted in Paris alongside Rihanna at Pharrell Williams’ debut Louis Vuitton fashion show, and this latest track was made in collaboration with the Virginia designer and producer who styled Rocky.
Fans have noticed Rocky keeping busy with various filming projects, and although he has not released a lot of new music, both Rocky and Rihanna recently featured in a Beats by Dre commercial in which A$AP leaves the house to get diapers for his son, RZA, at Rih’s request. ‘RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n)’ is the advertisement’s backing track.
The lyrics of this latest song by A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Mayers) have also led to speculation that he and Rihanna (real name Robin Fenty) secretly got married. The rhyme “My wife is erotic, I’m smokin’ exotic / My whip is exotic, my crib is a cottage” has thrown his followers off as, until recently, people had seen them as boyfriend and girlfriend.
The video for Mayers’ latest single is reminiscent of the visuals of Skepta’s ‘Shutdown’ video concerning its all-white garments theme that enters halfway through the video. The two artists have had a good business relationship for some time.
Although many are excited about A$AP Rocky’s comeback, even his recent headlining set at Rolling Loud was ruined by rumours that he was in a raging feud with stylist Ian Connor and A$AP Bari of the A$AP Mob.
