Nas finally releases completed version of 'Life Is Like a Dice Game'

Nas has finally completed ‘Life Is Like a Dice Game’ and he has called in Freddie Gibbs and Cordae on the track too.

The song has been kicking around for almost 30 years since the first version appeared on the Illmatic sessions back in 1993. It has since become a favourite among Nas fans who have been pining out for him to complete it for decades, and their wishes have at long last been granted. Nas has teamed up with Spotify to resurrect the track and features new production by Hit-Boy.

On the track, Nas gets meta and discusses the journey of ‘Life Is Like a Dice Game. He raps: “Big Nas in the house y’all, on the freestyle tip, When I finish this shit, it’s sure to be a hit, This original recording hit the street ’round ’93, Was just a leak, the verse was incomplete, reconstructed the beat, So we can fuck up the street.”

Discussing the release, Nas said: “Spotify pulled out a leak from the ’90s that I did eons ago, and asked if I could resurrect it,” as part of a press release. “I can’t remember where I recorded it, or who produced it—maybe Easy Moe Bee, he was killin’ the game at the time! Carl Chery from Spotify suggested we connect with Freddie and Cordae to bring the song new life and I loved it.”

Carl Chery, Spotify’s Head of Urban, added: “True Nas fans are familiar with the ‘Life Is Like a Dice Game’ leak. I thought finishing the song would be a fresh spin on our Spotify Singles program. The original dates back to the ’90s but the concept feels more relevant than ever today, which makes it the perfect time to put it out.”

You’ll need to head over to Spotify to hear the track, which is exclusive to the streaming giant, but ‘Life Is Like a Dice Game’ is more than worth your time.
