50 Cent has predicted that YNW Melly will be released from prison with his new legal team. The Florida rapper is currently behind bars after being accused of murdering his childhood friends.
His trial was set to begin in September but has been pushed back to January 2027. Prosecutors claim Melly killed YNW Sakchaser (real name Anthony Williams) and YNW Juvy (real name Christopher Thomas Jr) in October 2018.
Police alleged Melly and YNW Bortlen staged the incident to appear as a drive-by shooting. Sakchaser and Juvy received multiple gunshot wounds, with Bortlen allegedly driving their bodies to an emergency room.
After the trial was delayed, Melly fired his defence team and hired Drew Findling, who is well-known for working with rappers such as Kodak Black, Lil Durk, and Cardi B, as well as Donald Trump.
50 Cent came across the news and took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the situation. “Melly gonna fvck around and come home fvcking wit Drew!” he wrote. “That’s the right lawyer.”
Melly was previously represented by Raven Liberty. In a statement this week, she revealed there were no hard feelings about parting ways.
“After discussions with [Melly] and the broader team, we’ve come to the collective agreement that it’s in his best interest to move forward with new counsel,” she said. “In doing so, we are circumventing the ability of the Broward State’s Attorney to deploy further bad faith tactics to delay the trial and deny [Melly] his Constitutional rights.
“Moreover, it frees me to hold multiple individuals in the Broward State’s Attorney and Sheriff’s offices accountable for behaviour in this case that I believe makes them sanctionable by the Florida State Bar and civilly liable. In the meantime, I will be cheering on Melly and his new, extremely capable team from the sidelines. I have no doubt they will secure his long-overdue freedom in the near future.”
