50 Cent claims he warned Lil Durk before murder-for-hire charge
Legendary rapper 50 Cent has claimed he warned fellow musician Lil Durk to watch over his team before he was arrested on a murder-for-hire charge.
Sitting down to discuss his recent projects for The Breakfast Club, the rapper recalled working with Lil Durk on Power Powder Respect and the advice he gave his colleague about keeping an eye out.
“We did a theme song for [Power Book IV: Force], the Chicago version, then I was like, ‘Yo, this is them? Just watch ’em.’ His crew,” he said, adding, “[Lil Durk] said, ‘You know what? Somebody just came to my house. How [do] they know exactly where the address is? I don’t give my address to nobody.'”
The rapper was, of course, referring to a 2021 incident when intruders allegedly broke into his home, and a gunfire exchange quickly broke out — but he and his girlfriend, India Royale, made it out unharmed.
Lil Durk was also arrested recently and charged with the serious crime of murder-for-hire in South Florida. Currently detained with US Marshals, he will remain incarcerated with no bail until his extradition and trial in California.
His arrest concerns a 2022 incident that saw Saviay’a Robinson murdered in Los Angeles during a drive-by shooting. Those involved were investigated, and police confirmed that the incident was linked to Lil Durk’s OTF label.
Moreover, the prosecution has said that an anonymous member of the label was offering “lucrative music opportunities” to anyone willing to kill their target, Atlanta rapper Quando Rondo.
However, despite the severity of his alleged crimes, a source recently told TMZ that he was in “great spirits” and had acted “agreeable” and “charming.”
This is likely due to the support he is currently receiving from family and friends, who are standing by his side throughout the entire process. His son even released a statement saying: “I want to take a moment to stand up for my dad, Durk Banks.”
The statement continued, “He has always dedicated his life to uplifting others and giving back to our community through his organization, Neighborhood Heroes. Beyond that, he is a great father who has always supported and loved our family unconditionally.”
At this stage, no trial date has been set for Lil Durk, who is still yet to directly comment on his arrest. It remains to be seen whether he’ll receive bail ahead of the trial, and recent reports also indicate that the rapper plans to plead not guilty to the charge.
