50 Cent turned down $3million to endorse Donald Trump

Hip-hop has always been very political, and as the formidable cultural force that it is, for years, politicians have used kingpins of rap music to attract voters and win elections. That said, not everyone in the culture is keen to participate in the world of politics, and during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, 50 Cent unveiled that he turned down a $3million offer to perform at Donald Trump’s New York rally on October 27th.

During the interview, DJ Envy asked the ‘In Da Club’ rhymer if the rumours surrounding the rally were true, and Fifty confirmed that Donald Trump offered him money to give him an endorsement and performance, stating, “I got a call, but they wanted me [for] Sunday.”

DJ Envy then read an article to the lyricist that alleged he was even asked to perform his 2003 hit ‘Many Men’ at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee over the summer. 50 Cent confirmed the report, clarifying, “They offered $3 million.”

Speaking about the world of politics, Fifty explained to the show’s hosts, “I didn’t even go far… I didn’t talk to them about that kinda stuff. I’m afraid about politics. You understand? I do not like no part about them. It’s because when you do get involved in it, no matter how you feel, someone passionately disagrees with you.”

Fifty explained the effects of rappers getting involved in politics that it can make people hate you, asserting, “That’s the formula for the confusion that sent Kanye to Japan. He said something about those things [politics], and now he can only go to Japan.”

During Donald Trump’s first presidency, Kanye West said extremely toxic things pertaining to race and began mingling with the controversial political commentator Candace Owens as well as the far-right extremist Nick Fuentes. According to 50 Cent, West’s involvement in politics, especially Republican politics, made him a pariah and has seen the love for him in the US dwindle.

Although the Curtis creator unsurprisingly turned down an offer to endorse Trump, his close friend and longtime collaborator Eminem recently appeared at a Kamala Harris rally in Detroit. Furthermore, Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, and Ricky Martin have all backed Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, ahead of the US election on November 5th.
