50 Cent reveals advice he gave Drake during his Kendrick Lamar feud
Many in hip-hop have harshly labelled Drake a loser since he lost his battle with Kendrick Lamar earlier this year.
The release of ‘Not Like Us’ brought the entire culture to a stop and it was extremely embarrassing for the 6God. That said, during the height of the feud 50 Cent tried to give him some advice.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Fifty revealed that he offered words of wisdom to Drizzy after the humiliating episode, stating, “I was telling him, it’s not him. I’m listening on the outskirts. It’s not you. Don’t let yourself think that for a second.”
He continued, “On some real shit, I said, ‘They said you lost, okay. Well, what did you lose?’ What exactly did he lose if he got $300 something million on his last tour? You didn’t lose a motherfucking thing, man.”
The Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ creator also admitted that he urged Drake to stay in the studio and commit to making new, high-quality music. Advice he clearly heeded, considering the series of singles he has released since the feud. Furthermore, he has a teased album with PARTYNEXTDOOR on the way.
The ‘In Da Club’ emcee recalled how he told Drake if you’re stuck in a moment or struggling with emotions, that’s when you should go to the studio and express yourself, unveiling, “[I said] ‘If that’s the moment, you keep your creative energy in the right place, and keep creating. If you slow down because you feel, ‘What the fuck?’ The resistance will make you feel like your material isn’t good.'”
Furthermore, the rapper told the interviewer he’s been there before, and in that tough moment, he realised, “You gotta figure out how to keep pushing, how to keep creating — because that’s what it feels like to you at the moment.” He added, “That shit was good for Hip Hop. It made both of them create quality material faster.”
50 Cent also disputed the idea that he should automatically side with Kendrick Lamar simply because of their mutual relationship with Dr Dre. Fifty explained where Drake is right now and said that because he is seen as the loser, people will attempt to reject all of his music even if it’s high-quality, stating, “Drake is in that position right now! They trying to resist the music because he put out some things that are dope.”
Earlier this year, the G-Unit mogul took to Instagram and uploaded a photo of he and Drake partying together in Toronto, writing, “Brain [brain emoji] storming last night me and @champagnepapi gonna get the [camera emoji] rolling biggest ting on your TV GLG.”
