2Pac murder suspect asks for charges to be dropped
2Pac murder suspect Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis was arrested in Las Vegas in September 2023 for the murder of the ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ rapper, who was shot multiple times in September 1996 while leaving a boxing match at the MGM Grand hotel and died six days later. However, he’s now requesting the charges be dismissed.
Davis, who was arrested almost 30 years after Tupac’s death, filed a motion in Vegas on January 6th, claiming his constitutional rights had been violated by an “unjustified” lengthy lag time that resulted in “dimming of memories, the death or disappearance of witnesses and the loss or destruction of material physical evidence.”
In the filing, obtained by ABC News this week, Davis’ attorney Carl Arnold said, “Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as far back as 2009 was in possession of the same set of facts that the Clark County District Attorney is now alleging makes Mr Davis responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur.”
He also claimed that Clark County’s District Attorney Office “has offered no reason as to why it waited another 14 years to prosecute a case against” Davis, violating his rights “in an extraordinary manner never before witnessed in the annals of the American criminal justice system.”
Arnold said prosecutors have no supporting evidence and that the evidence “comes solely from Mr Davis’ statements.” Without any facts available, he stated the indictment “must be dismissed.” He also claimed an immunity agreement promised to Davis is not being honoured.
Davis was reportedly being targeted with attacks in jail in 2023. Reggie Wright Jr, who previously worked at Suge Knight’s label Tha Row Records, told Bomb1st during an interview, “Heard he done got whooped on about three times already in there. And I got that confirmed from a very, very good source. But nothing major.”
He clarified the information, adding, “Just, you know, kicked, stomped, hit. Nothing like he gonna get when those dudes in the pen find out how he was saying that they soft. Yeah, that audio’s still out there. You better call [DJ] Vlad and try to get it pulled down.”
