21 Savage hits out at backlash over ‘What Happened to the Streets?’ album

21 Savage released his new album last week and has responded to backlash surrounding the project.

The Atlanta rapper dropped What Happened to the Streets? on December 12th, serving as his fourth solo album.

However, 21 has noticed criticism about the release and took to social media to share his opinion.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on December 17th, he wrote, “For the ones that don’t get it right now it will sink in later…I was lost too.” In additional posts, he said, “DA REALEST IN IT,” and “The biggest change all the time.”

Fans responded with mixed reviews. On one hand, someone wrote, “Yo ahh def was lost when u decide to drop that trash ahh album,” while another said, “Album was fire and people keep forgetting that 21 owns his masters! You don’t need to worry about the charts as an artist when you’re actually eating off of your music.”

Another person said, “He’s talking early in the morning because them numbers came out.”

What Happened to the Streets? contains 14 tracks with features from Drake, Lil Baby, GloRilla, Latto, Young Nudy, and G Herbo. Production is handled by the likes of Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Wheezy, Southside, FnZ, and many others.

The album is projected to debut at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart with 53,000 units in its first week.

In comparison, his last two solo albums, 2024’s American Dream and 2018’s I Am > I Was, reached number one on the chart. American Dream sold 133,000 units, while I Am > I Was sold 131,000 units.

His Drake collaborative album, Her Loss, also debuted at number one with 404,000 units in 2022.
