Young Thug reaches out for surprise first collaboration after jail release

On October 31st, Young Thug was finally released from police custody after two years behind bars. The Atlanta rapper who was involved in a RICO trial for alleged racketeering was the face of Georgia’s longest-running case of all time, and to many, it seemed as if it was never going to end.

As such, many of his fans have been waiting a long time for new music, and, despite his ability to release some music from jail, Young Thug’s followers have been looking forward to fresh rhymes and live performances from the Jeffrey creator.

That said, the ‘Pick Up The Phone’ rhymer has made his first request for a collaboration, and his choice is interesting, to say the least. Thugger reached out to another artist on X (formerly Twitter) and called out directly to another Atlanta lyricist.

On November 3rd, Young Thug posted his second tweet since being released from Fulton County jail, where he had lived for two years. Although the emcee asked the courts for permission to work with his former co-defendant Gunna, the conditions of his probation have prevented him from communicating with anybody who was involved in the trial, including his co-defendants.

Looking to find an artist who could help him create one of the biggest comeback hits of all time, Young Thug took to X, writing, “Wham, let’s drop one on these rats, Peter.” The post was directed at fellow Atlanta star, Lil Baby. However, he didn’t tag him publicly.

Since he sent the tweet, the post has received over three million views, 88,000 likes and 15,000 retweets, which signals an unfathomable amount of excitement among fans.

In December, 2022, YSL artist Gunna was released from jail after accepting a plea deal. Many saw this as an abandonment of his mentor and friend. Furthermore, many even implied that he must have snitched to gain a plea deal so early. Lil Baby was one of these individuals, and Young Thug has cosigned the sentiment in the past.

Droves of fans turned on Gunna for his decision, and shortly after his release, Lil Baby appeared to diss Gunna during a stop on his It’s Only Us Tour. During a set, when their hit ‘Drip Too Hard’ was played, the emcee screamed, “Fuck the rats, turn this shit off.”

Lil Baby and Young Thug have collaborated on tracks before, such as the 2019 tracks, ‘Bad Bad Bad’ and ‘Never Hating’. That said, they have a good relationship and in a song he previewed earlier this year, Lil Baby rapped,  “Pussy n*ggas taking pleas/ I know Slime ain’t happy.” Still, fans are eager to see a collaboration featuring Thugger and Lil Baby.
