Young Thug hits out at Gunna’s “betrayal” for accepting plea deal
Young Thug has called out Gunna for betraying him during the YSL RICO trial. During a new podcast episode, Thugger opened up about his former artist going against him.
Gunna took an Alford plea in December 2022, pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act.
He was sentenced to five years in prison, which was commuted to time served. The rest was suspended, resulting in his release from jail with a requirement of 500 hours of community service.
During his hearing, Gunna confirmed to Judge Glenda J Kendrick that YSL was a “gang” that “must end.”
Thug appeared on the Perspektives with Bank and addressed Gunna’s decision. “Was Gunna takin’ that plea harmful to me? Yes, 100%,” he said. “First, we tellin’ the jurors ‘YSL ain’t a gang.’ Now [after the plea deals], we goin’ back to the jurors sayin’, ‘Well, some people might say it’s a gang — but we ain’t a part of that part of it. We a part of the record label part.’
“Even if I don’t want to hear it, you still supposed to be a real n*gga and say it. How can you just do what you did to me and then just go live your life? Like ain’t nothing happened?”
Ultimately, Thug was released from prison in October 2024 after accepting a plea deal. He was sentenced to time served and 15 years of probation.
Despite being hurt by Gunna, he said, “I love you, bruh… I poured so much into him, I can’t even hate him. In jail, I thought I hated him… But I don’t wish no ill will on him — no ill feelings at all. I don’t [want to forgive Gunna]. I wish he did something lighter so I could forgive him… I done cried many nights over this shit.”
Thug revealed that he no longer speaks to many of his friends, claiming many of his former affiliates betrayed him.
“The n*ggas I be with everyday I don’t got ‘em no more,” he said. “I’m fucked up. I don’t know what to do. And I ain’t lose no n*gga to tragedy, I lost a n*gga to betrayal. You signing that one piece of paper could give me a life sentence… You gon’ let a piece of paper end all this shit?”
