Young Thug’s father calls out rappers for lack of support in jail: “He’d have been fighting for you”
Young Thug was released from jail in October, with the hip-hop world coming together to welcome the Atlanta rapper home after spending almost two-and-a-half years behind bars. But his father, Jeffrey Williams Sr, has struck out at those wanting to reunite with his son, claiming they weren’t there when he needed them most.
Willams Sr appeared on a new episode of the Nothing But the Truth Podcast with Big Jeff and held nothing back, questioning why rappers weren’t protesting for Thugger’s freedom.
“We got all these rappers and everybody trying to find Young Thug,” he said. “They wanna talk to Young Thug, this, that and the other. Where your ass been for 29 months? Why y’all ass ain’t been out there protesting for his constitutional rights being violated? Y’all are the ones considered to be the influencers. Ain’t influencing shit.”
He continued: “Now, you want to talk to him, you want to goddamn put out these monkey-ass videos, all this, for your personal gain. It’s just for your personal gain, your personal hype, trying to make yourself relevant. Where have y’all been for 29 months?”
Young Thug was recently released from custody after spending over 900 days in jail. He entered a non-negotiated guilty plea deal to several charges, including firearm possession and participation in criminal street gang activity, while pleading no contest to racketeering and leading a criminal street gang. He will serve 15 years on probation.
Williams Sr mentioned Atlanta rappers specifically, calling them out for not fighting for Young Thug when he was incarcerated. “I don’t see why you deserve brownie points for that,” he said.
The reason for his issues seemed to stem from the fact that he believed his son would have made more effort to visit them if it had been them who were under investigation. “Because I guarantee,” he continued, “if the shoe was on the other foot, he’d have been fighting for you. He would have been fighting for you, hands down, without trying to make a prop for his name so he can get some clout.”
Mentioning TI directly, he said, “I was told, ‘Let me get with my people and see can I do that.’ But yet, I see you, right there beside Young Thug. That’s when he needed the help. That’s when he needed your support. Let’s be for real.”
