Young Thug co-defendant Yak Gotti stabbed in jail
One of Young Thug‘s co-defendants has been stabbed in jail, according to reports.
Rapper Yak Gotti was attacked in Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail over the weekend while awaiting a verdict from the jury in the YSL indictment.
WSB-TV first reported the news on December 2nd, with a spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office confirming that a “physical altercation” took place on December 1st at the South Annex in Union City.
“Deamonte Kendrick, also known as rapper Yak Gotti, and another jail resident were in a physical altercation on Sunday, December 1st,” a department representative told Complex. “Kendrick received treatment for minor injuries from a sharp object at the Fulton County Jail.”
The statement continued, “The incident occurred at the South Annex in Union City where both men were being housed. Kendrick will be in court today. This is an active investigation to determine the aggressor in this incident and if charges will be pending.”
Yak Gotti is one of two remaining defendants in the YSL RICO trial, having pled not guilty to murder, gang and racketeering charges. He’s expected to appear in court on December 2nd.
His lawyer, Douglas Weinstein, has since taken to TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) to address the incident. He claimed that his client was expected to make a full recovery and was heading to the hospital for some medical attention.
“I did get to speak to him briefly last night,” he said. “He sounded tired; he was alert. When I spoke to him, he was at the jail getting ready to be transported to the hospital for some stitches. I don’t know his full medical condition. I don’t know the results of what happened at the hospital.”
He added, “It’s very, very difficult to get information from the hospital on these things. Travelling to the hospital makes no difference. I was told that would be pointless. So, I will see him in court today and I should know more then. But please pray for him.”
This isn’t the first time Yak Gotti has been involved in a stabbing. In 2022, he was involved in a fight with another inmate who reportedly tried to stab him with a homemade knife. Then, in 2023, he was stabbed during another jail fight.
Young Thug was released from prison in October after accepting a plea deal, resulting in being sentenced to time served and 15 years of probation.
