YNW Bortlen’s prison release date pushed back amid transfer
YNW Bortlen has been transferred to a new prison and had his release date pushed back. The Florida rapper was sentenced in September after accepting a plea deal.
Bortlen was accused of killing his friends, YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser, in October 2018. He pleaded no contest to one count of tampering with a witness, two counts of being an accessory to a capital felony, and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
The 26-year-old was previously incarcerated at South Florida Reception Center, a state prison in Miami-Dade County, but police records show he’s now at Madison Work Camp in Madison.
Not only has he been moved, but his release date has also been delayed to September 22nd, 2033, after previously being set for January 6th, 2032.
As a result of his plea deal, Bortlen saw the dismissal of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of witness tampering, and directing the activities of a criminal gang.
Despite the plea, his lawyer, Fred Haddad, denied all allegations of cooperating against his co-defendant, YNW Melly.
“I don’t represent snitches,” he said. “Cortlen Henry is not a snitch, and he will not be cooperating or testifying in YNW Melly’s trial. Anyone who claims differently has not seen the plea deal and has no idea what they’re talking about.”
Attorney Joseph E Nascimento added, “There is no requirement or expectation that he cooperate with the prosecution against his co-defendant in the case, nor do I anticipate that he will be called as a witness by either side, so his plea should not be construed as an admission of any kind, nor can it be used against him or anybody else.”
Melly’s retrial is scheduled for January 2027, where he will be represented by Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Drew Findling. He’s facing a possible death penalty or life sentence.
