Xzibit unveils a star-studded West Coast tracklist for album
California emcee Xzibit has announced that he will be releasing a new album, Kingmaker, and has released a tracklist to accompany it. The LP, which is set to follow up to his 2012 project Napalm, will be released on May 16th and boasts a number of iconic West Coast features.
The 20-track body of work will see guest verses from the likes of NWA legends like Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, as well as appearances from Cypress Hill’s B-Real. Even non-Californian heavyweights such as Redman, Busta Rhymes, and Royce Da 5’9 have been recruited by Xzibit for the new album.
What’s even more significant is that Kingmaker will be released through Greenback Records, the label recently launched by MMA superstar Conor McGregor. Furthermore, the imprint recently partnered with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony who worked extensively with Eazy-E.
Kingmaker has seen numerous delays and setbacks as the former Pimp My Ride host adds last-minute additions and pushes for perfection. The project’s lead single, ‘Play This At My Funeral’, is one of his proudest creations.
In a press release, Xzibit told fans, “It sounds morbid, but the song isn’t about death. It’s a snapshot of where I am mentally, physically, and emotionally.” He continued, “Some finite statements are made in there. I wanted to show people where I’ve been, what I’ve been doing, and answer those lingering questions.”
The ‘Multiply’ emcee also addressed what has been seen as his comeback and return to the music industry after a long break. Explaining why he has chosen to resurface now, he detailed in his press release, “This is what I do best. I’ve been involved in film and TV, but music is the catalyst for everything! I’ve been recording on and off for over a decade, but I wasn’t hearing what I needed. When I finally did, I knew it was time.”
With Kingmaker, Xzibit isn’t just hoping to return to hip-hop but take it over again after proving he has the ability to with classics like ‘B*tch Please II,’ ‘Multiply,’ and ‘What You See.’
