The last song that made Wiz Khalifa cry: “That shit just hit me”

No matter how much bravado someone puts across, there’s always that one song that makes them cry. Wiz Khalifa has never been afraid to show his emotions, recently tearing up during his “Tiny Desk Concert” that saw him running through some of his hits. The Pittsburgh rapper also cried while listening to a “beautiful” song from another artist.

Wiz released one of the most gut-wrenching pop songs of the 21st century in 2015 with his hit single ‘See You Again‘ alongside Charlie Puth. The track appeared in the Furious 7 film as a tribute to Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker, who passed away in a car crash in November 2013. Their collaboration hit deep with fans, topping the charts for a total of 12 weeks in the US.

The impact ‘See You Again’ had on the world mirrors how Wiz feels listening to a classic song from the 1980s. During an interview with Billboard, he opened up about ‘Bootsy Bellows’ having his favourite verse on Rolling Papers 2, revealing how emotional it makes him feel. From there, he opened up about the last thing he heard that brought him to tears.

“Last song that made me cry is the song by The Police, ‘Every Breath You Take’,” Wiz admitted. “Shit, that was the other day! It’s just a beautiful song, and it got all types of different emotions in it. And when it picks up at the end, man, that shit just hit me.”

‘Every Breath You Take’ topped the singles chart in the UK and US, becoming the biggest single of 1983 in America. Sting wrote the touching song after he and his first wife, Frances Tomelty, got divorced. He described it as a “nasty little song” and “really rather evil,” speaking on “jealousy, surveillance, and ownership.”

Sting famously sings on the record, “Every move you make/ And every vow you break/ Every smile you fake, every claim you stake/ I’ll be watching you/ Every move you make, every step you take/ I’ll be watching you.”

Diddy sampled the song for his 1997 hit ‘I’ll Be Missing You‘. The Faith Evans collaboration was a tribute to Biggie Smalls following his death, reaching number one on the Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. Over the years, there have been rumours – spread by both Sting and Diddy – about the rapper having to pay him thousands of dollars every day.

The British musician once said Diddy had to pay him “for the rest of his life” after only asking for permission when ‘I’ll Be Missing You’ had already been released. However, he said they were “very good friends now” and praised the Bad Boy rapper for putting together “a beautiful version of that song.” There was talk of around $3,000 and $5,000 being paid daily, but Diddy later claimed he was joking.

“I want y’all to understand I was joking,” he said. “It’s called being facetious! Me and Sting have been friends for a long time! He never charged me $3K or $5K a day for ‘Missing You’. He probably makes more than $5K a day from one of the biggest songs in history.”
