Wiz Khalifa could face jail time following drugs charges in Romania
Pittsburgh emcee Wiz Khalifa has picked up a new drug charge in the Eastern European nation of Romania. While at a music festival, after smoking a joint, law enforcement charged him with possession of an illegal substance.
A police report released by Romanian officials read, “During a performance at a music festival held in the resort of Costinesti, the accused was found to have possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis and to have consumed (on stage) another quantity in the form of a handmade cigarette.”
Wiz, who resides in the US, is used to loose cannabis laws. However, in Romania, illegal use of cannabis can constitute a ten-year prison sentence. The nation considers it a “risk drug,” however although the ‘Black & Yellow’ lyricist was charged, he wasn’t kept in police custody.
This is the latest in a number of problems hip-hop artists have suffered in Eastern European countries. Last week, Pink Friday creator Nicki Minaj was forced to cancel her appearance at a festival, telling fans, “Out of concern for the well-being of our team and myself, my security detail [advised me] not to travel to Romania’s festival tonight due to safety concerns regarding protests in the area. I look forward to seeing you all at another time.
She continued, “As a mom, I have to make sure I’m making sound decisions for me to make it home to my son and for my team to make it home to their families. To not heed the advice of security at this time is simply not what I think I should be doing.”
Fans are hoping Wiz returns safely from Romania as his girlfriend Aimee Aguilar is pregnant, and they are very excited for this new chapter as parents. These issues with MCs in Romania follow the widely covered legal case the Tate brothers are fighting in the country.
Khalifa will be performing at other festivals across the globe this year, with the Pennsylvania native set to perform alongside A$AP Rocky, Tyla, Ski Mask The Slump God, and many more at a Rolling Loud event in the Asian country of Thailand.
