Will Smith and Martin Lawrence pick their favourite rappers ever

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back on the big screen as a dynamic duo in the new Bad Boys film Bad Boys: Ride Or Die. The first movie in the long-running franchise, released in 1995, has been a popular feature in Hollywood.

The last Bad Boys movie released in January 2020 grossed $426.5 million worldwide and was the highest-selling of the entire franchise. Having made a new film, Smith and Lawrence are now on a promo tour doing interviews across the US.

In a recent episode of the Complex YouTube series’ GOAT Talk’, Smith and Lawrence spoke about their seemingly bulletproof franchise but also revealed some of the things and people they believe are the ‘Greatest Of All Time’.

Both actors have had an impact on hip-hop and African-American culture at large. That said, after they had spoken about their new film, the two were asked who their ‘GOAT’ rappers were.

Their answers were surprising, to say the least. In response to the question, Lawrence decided to go with a generational peer and a close personal friend, stating, “I would have to say Snoop Dogg for me.”

He continued, “Because Snoop’s always come through for me. He’s done my show and has always been excellent. And he’s a good friend of mine.” Lawrence and Snoop were featured in the 2019 film The Beach Bum, and Snoop appeared on an episode of Lawrence’s iconic comedy show Martin in 1994.

When faced with the question, Will Smith decided to go even further into hip-hop history, unveiling, “I think that in terms of changing the game. Rakim.” However, he couldn’t name just one and continued, “The combination of Melle Mel and Grandmaster Caz. In terms of me developing my love for hip-hop.”

This was an appropriate answer given that Smith recently encountered the rapper during a Sway In The Morning radio interview on SiriusXM.
