Wife of death row rapper reveals his final words before execution
The wife of James Broadnax, a rapper who was executed last week, has revealed his final words.
Broadnax was sentenced to death by the state of Texas after being convicted of double murder in 2009.
Prosecutors used his lyrics against him, resulting in his death by lethal injection at the Texas State Penitentiary on April 30th.
During an interview with The Mirror, his British wife, 31-year-old Tiana Krasniqi, opened up about his final moments.
“His last words to me was ‘don’t give up’ and ‘I love you,'” she said. “We spoke to each other the whole time he was strapped in the gurney. His head jerked back and couldn’t finish his last word and his head fell looking at me and he closed his eyes.”
She continued, “I screamed ‘open your eyes’ and told him I loved him and sorry I failed him. I dropped to the ground and they picked me up and told me I had to wait for 20 mins till he died. We had promised that we would look at each other and talk to each other whilst it was happening. The whole thing felt like the final destination movie.”
Travis Scott, T.I., Young Thug, and Killer Mike were among those who defended Broadnax leading up to his execution.
He was accused of killing two music producers in Garland in a 2008 robbery, with his cousin, Demarius Cummings, recently confessing that he was the shooter.
37-year-old Broadnax was given a fatal dose of pentobarbital after the US Supreme Court denied his final appeal. Krasniqi screamed “I love you” before throwing herself against the window of the execution chamber.
Taking to TikTok, she wrote, “I watched his lips go blue, his face go blue, and then his veins on his forehead appeared. He suffered. His body struggled. So what part of that did he die peacefully?”
