In an interview with music publication Music Choice, ‘In Da Club’ rapper, 50 Cent spoke about his relationship with Eminem, explaining how Eminem helped him in his career as a mentor and why their relationship is so important to him. However, one thing he also revealed was that he knows the real reason why some people hate Eminem.
He began the interview by talking about his success with regard to accolades as he explained, “I don’t have the accolades to connect the performance of my music”. Pointing out the disproportionality and highlighting the selective nature of the award system, he continued to clarify, “I don’t have the trophies that match how big the actual records are, the one Grammy I have is for ‘Crack A Bottle’, I wouldn’t even have that without Em, that’s why I have so much value for him”.
He then went on to detail the gift of having Eminem’s mentorship, divulging, “He’s the guy….you know one of my best friends because I can trust that he’s gonna be honest with his constructive criticism when it’s time to listen to the music before it goes out”. He continues to sing the rapper’s praises. Explaining how he idolised him and his achievements, the rapper revealed, “He was the only person that did the things I wanted to. He had The Marshall Mathers LP with 22 million records sold, with flags all around the actual plaque, and I was like, ‘yo I want that! I want that kind of success’, and I knew I had to go door to door to get it because I’m not Em”.
This is when the Queens rapper started to reveal why he feels people hate Eminem. He started off bluntly but boldly, stating, “Hip hop is black music. Without question. And unfortunately for some people, it’s tough to accept that you got a white artist that does it better than black artists. It is what is.”
He continued along racial lines putting Eminem in a battle rap context stating, “You can get like whoever you feel like is the best black artist, and stand them face to face in a room with Em, and he’ll eat that n*gga alive”. Talking about people often considering that Jay-Z is equal or better than Eminem, he audaciously “Em’s selling like 60 million records more than him, how you gonna put them there like they’re equals.”
The Queens rapper finalised by admitting that although he may sound bitter, there’s truth in it he did this, saying, “It’s tough for me to say some of this shit, and I sound like a hater, but I don’t care.” You can watch the full interview in the video below.
