Why Lil Nas X’s dad dissed Boosie Badazz
Atlanta country-trap sensation Lil Nas X is one-of-a-kind. He is a unique and exciting figure within the culture. However, he is also controversial and one of the first of his kind to achieve success.
Although openly gay rappers such as Harlem’s GypjaQ and Miami’s Saucy Santana have been around for years, Lil Nas X is undoubtedly one of the first openly gay rappers to crossover into the mainstream and, as such, his mere presence within the culture has been highly polarising.
The lyricist has been a formidable force since he burst onto the scene with ‘Old Town Road’ in 2018, but his prevalence has led to other, older, less relevant artists speaking out about how, as a homosexual, Lil Nas X is detrimental to hip-hop. One emcee who has done this consistently is ‘Wipe Me Down’ rhymer Boosie Badazz.
Boosie Badazz has aimed at Lil Nas X on several occasions, condemning him for embracing his sexuality and “corrupting children.” However, Boosie himself had faced criticism himself after hiring a sex worker for his 14-year-old son.
That said, during an appearance on the radio show The Breakfast Club, Lil Nas X expressed his indifference to Boosie’s opinions, stating, “I was listening to Boosie in the club the other day. I don’t really care. Honestly, I wish they didn’t say it, I guess.”
He continued, “But I like the music. I’m gonna listen to the music. If somebody got beef with me, that doesn’t mean I got beef with them.” In an Instagram live, Lil Nas X even insisted that he was working on a track will Boosie Badazz, telling his followers, “I’ve been working on this song with Lil Boosie, bro! I have this song with Lil Boosie, gonna come out.”
Still, Boosie responded on X (formerly Twitter), angrily writing, “Stop trolling me f*****!! U a whole b**** playing with a gangsta SMH U can keep sucking d*** n gettin f***** n your a** n peace. U hate yourself” and “I would too if I was you.”
The Baton-Rouge lyricist even suggested that Lil Nas X commit suicide, posting, “If you commit suicide, you would do this world a huge favour,” he continued. “Nobody wants u here.”
However, in a strange twist of events, Boosie Badazz once found himself arguing with Lil Nas X’s father, the gospel musician R.L. Stafford. The emcee’s dad responded to the ‘Zoom’ performer in a story, shouting, “How the hell you’re a gangsta rapper promoting drugs, gun violence, degrading women and getting high every video talking about you’re for the kids man sit your old man looking a** down.”
After Boosie became aware that Lil Nas’ dad came out to defend his son, the Louisiana rapper responded with a wild tweet, reading, “Don’t get mad at me cause your son came out like that LOL,” he wrote in all caps. “I know it hurts.”
